Fifty is not a Four-Letter Word provides women over 50 with guidance in all things fashion, from age-appropriate trends and dressing for your body shape, to practical style tips that make you feel more confident in your own skin by learning to hide those figure flaws.
Why is it that, when it comes to many of the fashion trends highlighted every season, women over 50 tend to be invisible? In fact, in the fickle world of fashion, it seems that "fifty" is almost a four-letter word!
In our teens, our 20s, our 30s and even our 40s the world is our oyster when it comes to keeping up with trends and being able to buy fashionable pieces off the peg. Get to 50-, 60- and 70-plus, however, and many women struggle to find suitable outfits that do not have them either looking like their mum or dressing like their daughter.
There is something about passing that half a century mark that means, for many of us at least, mentally we feel can no longer dress the way we did in our 20s or 30s - although, if I am allowed to play devil's advocate here - I would say the first step is to think about dressing for your body shape (which in itself can take years off your figure) rather than worrying too much about dressing for your age.
Whilst there are certainly some mature women that instinctively get it right, when it comes to fashion over 50, many women lose their way and are unsure how to dress. This is compounded by the fact that there is often simply not enough choice out there when it comes to 50+ and 60+ fashion, as older women try to find stylish clothes that show that they have not given up on fashion, or that fashion has not given up on them. Have you seen the selection of affordable stylish dresses with sleeves available on the High Street, for example? Almost zilch!
So, whether you want advice on what to wear or how to carry off the latest trends, this site is dedicated to all of us women the wrong side of 50 who have found ourselves in a style rut. We have as much right to look and feel good in what we wear as those half our age, it just takes a little know-how and a dollop of self-confidence. When it comes to dressing both stylishly and fashionably, fifty is not a four-letter word!
